Is Preity trying to avoid Ness Wadia?

/photo.cms?msid=5263401 Priety Zinta who turned matchmaker for her friends, Eesha Koppikar and Timmy Narang was missing from their sangeet ceremony on Sunday.

It is known that Priety was the one who introduced Eesha to Timmy Narang. All three of them used to work out at the same gym. Thus, it was surprising to know that Preity who hooked them up was missing from the scene.

Interestingly, Preity’s ex boyfriend Ness Wadia was present at the sangeet ceremony to greet the couple. According to a close friend of Preity Zinta’s, she was invited for the sangeet, but couldn’t make it to the function since she is in LA. “But she will try to attend the wedding on Sunday,” we’re told.

Let’s hope Preity makes it for Eesha’s big day!

Is Sachin Tendulkar being unnecessarily targeted?

/photo.cms?msid=5261834 Sachin Tendulkar finished 20 years in international cricket but during the press interaction invited trouble when he openly spoke his mind on Mumbai and it belonging to India and not just Maharashtra. Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece ‘Samna’ immediately condemned his statement and retorted he should have focussed on cricket and shouldn’t have got into politics as his statement hurt Marathi sentiments.

As the matter was dying down Sena once again brought it in the limelight by explaining why Sachin was not a true Maharashtrian. Samna’s editor Raut wrote, “There has been no instance of Sachin extending a helping hand to other Marathi cricketers. Forget others, he did not even support Vinod Kambli. In contrast, Gavaskar when he captained India, had half the team drawn from Mumbai and Maharashtra. He gave Test caps to many Marathi players including Suru Naik and Zulphikar Parkar at least for one match. In this context, Gavaskar is a genuine 'Maharashtrian' and the whole country loves him even now in the same way.”

“Players like Sachin have become rich because of the game of cricket. Sachin's wealth has crossed Rs 200-crore mark. We expect Sachin to be as 'proud' of Maharashtra as Saurav Ganguly is of Bengal. Rahul Dravid too is a Marathi player but he is loyal to Karnataka,” said Raut.

Akshay Kumar eyes Canadian citizenship?

/photo.cms?msid=5264942 It is believed that Akshay Kumar, who has been nominated as torch bearer of the 2010 winter Olympic Games in Canada, is also looking for better business ventures in Canada.

After enjoying stardom he is ready to explore avenues other than acting and producing films. Akshay, who got into film production by launching his banner Hari Om Productions, is planning to bury himself into business completely.

According to an industry insider, Akshay is investing big time in Canadian properties. He is planning to have malls and hotels in Canada.

It is also believed that Akshay is planning to acquire a Canadian passport. His Canadian citizenship will help him in business ventures. So while he is a seasoned actor now, he is slowly but surely trying to learn the tricks of trade, literally speaking.

We tried to get in touch with Akshay Kumar to confirm the news, but the actor chose not to respond.

Adnan Sami: Sachin Tendulkar is a poet on the field…

Music director Adnan Sami is on a high these days. For starters, his album with Jermaine Jackson is ready, his son Azaan has made his Bollywood debut and the man has found much stability in his personal life. So as the conches are blowing hard and very much in tune, Adnan is more than happy making people dance to his tunes! However, what he isn’t too happy about is the reaction of some political parties towards Sachin Tendulkar.

When we were chatting with the composer-singer, we casually brushed upon the topic of discrimination. Adnan was once discriminated against for being a Pakistani artist, and now we find discrimination and angst within same communities in our own backyards. Sad but true!

“Whatever is happening is not right. Art in whatever form - music, sports, on canvas, poetry, etc - has no geographical boundaries. Sachin Tendulkar is a poet on the field, and whoever is saying rubbish about him can go and screw himself,” stated Adnan, not quite caring to censor his thoughts. “It’s an honest opinion. It’s time we rise higher than ourselves and give due recognition to people who deserve it instead of running them down!” opined Sami.

'Kurbaan' director Rensil D'Silva upset with UTV

Director Rensil D'Silva is upset with UTV, co-producers of his directorial debut "Kurbaan", for dubbing into Hindi a crucial English-language classroom discussion on Islam and the Western world featuring Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi and caucasian Asian-American students.

"The white students speaking in Hindi sounds so artificial. I'm upset because in many ways this discussion of Islamic fundamentalism and America is the crux of the theme. Dubbing it in Hindi takes away from its seriousness," D'Silva told IANS.

Released Friday, the film, also starring Kareena Kapoor, Dia Mirza and Kirron Kher, has been co-produced by UTV and Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

The director feels specially let down since he has not once compromised on the spoken language of the film.

"Saif, Vivek, Kareena Kapoor and Diya Mirza speak in a mixture of Hindi and English. Kirron Kher too has her own speech pattern. It's only in the crucial scene that the linguistic integrity is compromised.

"They (UTV) had assured me that the dubbing was only for a very small number of prints that would go in the Hindi belt where English is not understood," he added.

Instead UTV has dubbed the vital sequence in 500 prints of "Kurbaan".

When asked, Siddharth Roy Kapoor, CEO of UTV said: "It's an important scene for the audience to understand as it details out the core debate in the film. In order to not alienate a non-English speaking audience, we've dubbed this scene in certain areas."

Madhur Bhandarkar felicitated at Cairo

Madhur Bhandarkar returned to Mumbai two days back after a week long trip to Cairo. He was in the city for 33rd Cairo International Film Festival where he was felicitated for his contribution to cinema. Also, five of his films, namely Chandni Bar, Page3, Corporate, Traffic Signal and Fashion, were showcased under the section "Tribute to Indian Cinema."

"It was a great trip since it reaffirmed that Indian films do get some very good recognition abroad if presented in the right film festivals. They chose five of my recent films to be showcased and response was quite good", says Madhur whose Jail has released a fortnight back.

While other invitees were aware about his films like Chandni Bar, Page 3 and Fashion, the films that caught many of them by surprise were Traffic Signal and Corporate.

"These films were poles apart and the narrative style was entirely different too", says Madhur, "They were quite surprised that the setting of both these films was quite different as Traffic Signal was mostly shot outdoors while Corporate had a board room setting to it. Also, they both were set in different socio economic zones."

Earlier this year, Madhur had also travelled to Moscow International Film Festival for a similar retrospective. However, in Cairo he wasn't alone as he also had Irrfan Khan for company.

The actor, who was last seen in masala thriller Acid Factory, and is a global name courtesy The Namesake, Slumdog Millionaire and other films from the West, was also felicitated for his contribution to cinema.

Minissha Lamba is the new face of Ever Yuth

The very name of Minissha Lamba not just reflects beauty and grace, but also poise and magnetism. After having glorified the silver screen with her presence in Bollywood and after having launched a thousand products merely by saying 'cheese', the camera's favourite girl is now all set to add yet another product in her kitty of endorsements.

This time round, it's the cosmetic company Zydus Pharma who has signed her for their flagship brand 'EverYuth'. If the sources close to Bollywood Hungama are to be believed, then, the remuneration that Minissha has received is really something to rave about. The source also went onto add that Minissha was very particular about the TVC that was shot featuring her promoting the brand. Hence, she sat throughout the making of the ad, which, incidentally has come out really well.

All in all, Minissha has now more than one reason to smile about. After all, she is someone who can 'for-Ever' represent the 'Youth'. What say, Minissha!

Akshay, Paresh - Sunil Speak About 'De Dana Dan' Part 2

Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty in this second part of a bollywoodhungama.com exclusive conversation with Faridoon Shahryar, talk about their favourite songs 'Paisa Paisa' and 'Rishte Naate'. Trio also talk about their respective characters and what the film 'De Dana Dan' is all about. The fun element between these three seasoned actors has to be seen to be believed. Must Watch!

Ajab Katrina's Ghazab Look

Is Ajay Devgn's Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge a remake of License To Wed?

One look at a working still from Ajay Devgn, Konkona Sen and Paresh Rawal starrer atithi tm kub jaogi and you are instantly reminded of License To Wed, an American film that was released a couple of years ago.

Right from the bedroom setting to the body language of the three principal characters (Robin Williams, Mandy Moore, John Krasinski) - it's a case of an inspiration going a little too far. While in Atithi... , it's Paresh Rawal who is the centre of attention (literally), in License To Wed it is Robin Williams who seems to be having all the fun as he comfortably places himself on the bed.

So, is the inspiration restricted only to the poster or is the story based on similar lines as well?

Kumar Mangat, producer of Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge? refutes the allegation, "First and foremost what we have released is not the First Look or a poster from the film; it is just a working still from a song that we have shot. Moreover, we have just been inspired from the poster of License To Wed. Beyond that, there aren't any more similarities."

Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge? is the story about an unwanted guest who enters the household of a married couple and lives for a long duration by continuously extending his stay. So much so, that the couple is exasperated and starts praying for his exit. While Ajay Devgn and Konkona Sen play the part of a married couple, Paresh Rawal is the uninvited guest.

On the other hand License To Wed, the film which was a moderate success in spite of being panned by critics, is the story of John and Mandy, a much in love couple, who go through a marriage preparation course, as suggested by Reverend Frank (Robin Williams). However, Frank makes their love life miserable as he demands chastity, bugs their apartment, initiates arguments, has them care for robot twins, creates friction and raises doubts.

As is quite apparent, the storyline of both Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge? and License To Wed is quite different. Apparently, Kumar Mangat was inspired by a real life incident at his own place when a guest refused to leave him for a long duration.

"This happened a year back", laughs Mangat when reminded of the incident, "We were glad to have him home. However, it became a pain of sorts when he didn't seem to be budging at all. It was amusing to begin with but later it all turned really frustrating. Meanwhile, Ashwani (writer and director of the film) also came up with the story idea of Atithi... and we decided to make a full fledged feature film."

Incidentally, germ of Atithi.... is in a story titled Tum Kab Jaaoge Atithi which was penned by noted satirist Late Sharad Joshi. However, Mangat has purchased rights of the story.

With lyrics by Irshad Kamil and music by Pritam, Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge? is all set for a 26th February release.

Shahid Kapur finally sorts out problem with mom, Neelima

There has been much talk that things are not fine between Shahid Kapur and his mom, Neelima Azmi. Shahid's mom in fact has even spoke to the media lashing out at her ex-husband and Shahid's dad, Pankaj Kapur for creating a rift between her and Shahid. Sources claim that the actual reason for the rift between Shahid and his mom has been her second marriage about four years back to Raza Ali Khan. It seems that things have never quite been the same between Shahid and his mom ever since Neelima tied the knot with Raza four years back. However now both Shahid and Raza Ali Khan are trying to work things out. Shahid is even considering doing a film that will be directed by mom Neelima Azmi.

Just some time back Shahid and Neelima's present husband, Raza met up and are trying to work things out now for the sake of Neelima. Shahid has always had reservations about Neelima tying the knot with Raza, but now that time has passed, things have cooled down and both parties are trying to compromise and get to know the other. Neelima said "Well Shahid had his point of view and I had mine. It's okay, things are falling in place now. After all, I am his mother." Neelima is also keen to direct her first film and she naturally wants to cast son Shahid, she also wants to cast Govinda and Amrita Rao for the film. Shahid is currently reading the script and still has to give his assent to the film. Well lets' hope that the problem between the mother-son duo has finally been sorted out.

Juhi Chawla to sing for Bhootnath

Vishal said "I was impressed with Juhi's singing abilities. She is a well trained singer who has good command over her voice."

Juhi has also professionally trained in singing and this is the first time that she will actually put her skill to use. It is the first time that she will be doing playback singing. Juhi too was more than happy to lend her voice for a song. The song that Juhi has sung has two versions. The female version is sung by Juhi while the male version is sung by Amitabh.

Akshay to play a psychological superhero in 8 x 10

Akshay Kumar will soon be seen playing a superhero in 8 x 10, but he will enact the role of a different kind of superhero. The film is being produced by Percept and the joint Managing director, Shailendra Singh says "Yes, it's true that Akshay is playing a superhero in 8 x 10. In the film, he can read the minds of people and has special powers and the ability to solve extraordinary problems and hence he is a psychological superhero."

8 x 10 has been directed by Nagesh Kukunoor and stars Akshay Kumar, Ayesha Takia and Sharmila Tagore. In this film, Akshay will be seen returning to his action hero image as he has done several breathtaking action stunts himself. He has also done a risky underwater action stunt himself recently for which he received special training. Well, it will be nice to see Akki back as an action hero as well as a superhero.

What's new: Salman and Shoaib have a playful race Read more: What's new: Salman and Shoaib have a playful race

Salman Khan and cricketer Shoaib Akhtar seemed to have developed a nice camaraderie. Recently the two were seen chilling at Sallu's place over dinner and drinks. Apart from the two being known for their controversies, both are known to be extremely spontaneous and playful too. Salman then playfully challenged Sohaib to a race to check out who is fitter. And the surprise was that Sohaib always ready for a challenge, readily agreed. It was the middle of the night, so there were not too many people and Sallu and Shoaib decided to race each other outside Salman's home on the Bandstand stretch.

Shoaib who got into sportsman mode, then immediately removed his shirt and marked it as a starting point, Sallu followed suit and the two then took off at breathtaking speed. Sallu and Shoaib began to race each other, shirtless but unconcerned about the few people staring out at them in a bizarre manner in the middle of the night. The race was from Salman's home right down past SRK's bungalow to the end of the road and back within 15 minutes. Both seemed to be in a great shape and were doing great, but Sohaib won the race by beating Salman by just a few seconds. It was a site two see two grown up men, that too both stars in their own manner running shirtless in the middle of the night. Jail Movie Preview

The film with its violent, intimate and nude scenes was set for an Adult certificate, but Madhur wanted a U/A one, as he wanted to reach out to a larger audience. So he deleted seven scenes from the movie for the rating. Among the scenes that haven’t made it to the final cut are: a homosexual scene (a Madhur Bhandarkar staple), Neil’s nude scene, Neil’s lovemaking scene with Mugdha, a sex joke and dialogues with foul language.

Review:

Parag Dixit (Neil) is hard working white collared job employee who is just on the threshold of a great career ahead. He gets a well deserved promotion at his job and is all set to marry his girl friend Mansi (Mugdha). But fate has other plans. He gets wrongly implicated in crime which he is not part of and is subjected to a police custody first and then Thane jail. Thus begins a nightmare for the innocent Parag. How he faces the problems in a world completely unknown and as dark as he could not even imagine in his wildest dreams forms the rest of the film.

Jail is as gritty as it gets. It is not meant for the faint hearted. Madhur Bhandarkar yet again takes us right into the underbelly of a world we never knew existed like it is. With his well researched and authentic treatment, Madhur makes us feel the pain and anguish of what a person must be undergoing when he is put in jail. The dialogues are razor sharp befitting a Madhur Bhandarkar film and the large number of character actors carefully chosen justifying their parts with their natural act. The film has many characters put in for real life references like for example the infamous drunk and drive incident on a Mumbai road. Although, it takes a little extra time for the story to build up, after the interval point it packs in a solid punch. Camerawork by Kalpesh Bhandarkar and background music deserve special mention. Sayali Bhagat’s item song will please the front benchers.
